So some good and bad news over the last two weeks. We now have 5 nests on the stretch of beach and have seen tracks on nearly every day but unfortunately on Friday and Saturday we had some high winds that pushed the sea up to the back of the beach.
All of our nests were affected by the waterline to some degree with A01 and A04 being the worst effected as they were closer to the shoreline than the others.
On Saturday 05 July these two nests were completely underwater when checked and on Sunday 06 July the cage protecting A04 had been washed away by the sea.
We are hoping for the best with our nest, we have had inundations in the past with some success come hatching time, and we are all waiting to see if the same will happen this year.
As of Saturday 05 July, the neighbouring (sandier and longer) stretch of beach between Gerani and Chania had 18 nests found. So things are looking quite good for the Caretta Caretta so far.
Apologies for the time between posts, I have had a little IT problems. There will be photos of the nests, tracks and the inundations to follow on the website.
