Well the 2014 turtle beach patrols will be starting in a weeks time on Monday 19th May.
We had a great familiarisation walk yesterday and ensured we knew where all the new beach markers are and checked out how the beach has changed since last October.
Unfortunately there is a lot of construction going on in an area that has historically been very productive for the turtles. We hope that Archelon will be able to talk to the project managers and perhaps erect some kind of fencing or at the very least, let the workers know of the nesting activity that takes place along the beach to minimise the impact their work will bring. It appears we will have to relocate any nests in this area to avoid any nest damage. Stay tuned for more information on this as it comes to us via Archelon.
We have a few new people this year but we still always need volunteers to help out. If you are interested in conserving these wonderful creatures, why not use the CONTACT FORM and come along for a walk to see if you enjoy what we do.
Here's to a (hopefully) great 2014 season for the Loggerhead Turtles.
